Implementing the healing power of music in my clinical practice

“Music is such a powerful healing tool that reminds me of one of the purposes of my life when I burnt out at work or felt disheartened during the COVID-19 pandemic. - May 2021

Excellence Report

“Iris went the extra mile and arranged some live music for one of our long term patients playing the violin herself. She played a beautiful relaxing and calming piece for him which really had a positive impact to the patient specifically psychologically. I was looking after the patient in the afternoon and he told me how much he appreciated it and how it made his day and I am sure it uplifted his spirits after such a difficult and still ongoing recovery on Critical Care.
He really enjoyed listening to Iris playing the violin and so did all the staff. Generally Iris is compassionate and caring and I know this from when she reviews some of the patients I follow up on the ward as well as on the Unit. She builds a good rapport with the patients and provides person-centered therapy for them. I wanted to share this feedback from the patient and the staff on CICU and felt this act should go acknowledged.

Thank you Iris for what you did for the patient and the staff really enjoyed it too! I hope we can have it again as it was really therapeutic.”
